Physics talk by a noted educationist
As a part of Science Week, The Indian School hosted an inspiring talk, “The Joy of Asking Why: Physics as a Way of Seeing the World” on 21 August 2025. The event was organised under the aegis of “Anveshika Physics Bharat Yatra (APBY)”, a nationwide initiative of “National Anveshika Network of India (NANI)” by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT), which promotes experiential learning through demonstrations, workshops, and interactive sessions.
Chief Guest, Dr Ashok Pandey, a distinguished educationist and innovator, began by narrating the journey of Pooja Pal, a class 12 student from Barabanki who, despite severe financial constraints, engineered a dust free thresher, earning “INSPIRE” recognition and selection for Japan’s “Sakura Science Programme”. He also spoke about how legends such as C V Raman, A P J Abdul Kalam, and Shubhanshu Shukla dared to ask “Why” and turned their questions into discoveries that inspired generations. Linking this legacy to India’s scientific past, from Kanad’s atomic theory to Aryabhatta’s astronomy and J C Bose’s wireless transmission, he stressed that science is built on wonder, questioning, and experimenting. Yet, it also involves challenges such as adversity and opposition, where only confidence and perseverance can lead to breakthroughs.
Dr Pandey concluded by urging students to connect science with today’s challenges like climate change and clean energy, remarking: “In every student who asks ‘Why’, I see the soul of a scientist and the hope for a better future".
