Science in action for class 4 students
On Friday, 31 January 2025, 3 enthusiastic young learners from class 4, namely, Alesha Uzair, Vihaan Navin and Ivaan Rastogi, embarked on an exciting journey of discovery and hands'-on learning at St. Mary’s School. With the sun casting a warm glow, the day unfolded as a perfect blend of science, adventure, and outdoor exploration, leaving the students enriched with knowledge and unforgettable experiences.
Under the guidance of senior student volunteers, the children delved into engaging activities, immersing themselves in the wonders of nature. The highlight of their experience was a visit to the school farm, where they observed goats, hens and ducks up close, gaining insight into farm life and sustainable food production. The lush kitchen garden further deepened their curiosity, offering a real-world glimpse into the journey of food from soil to plate.
The day kicked off with a thrilling treasure hunt, designed to sharpen their observation, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Set amidst the school’s gardens and outdoor spaces, students eagerly followed clues to locate beetroot, amla, water, and soil samples. With each successful find, they uncovered fascinating facts about nature and her resources, making learning an exhilarating adventure.
The excitement continued at various interactive science stations, where the students became young scientists, experimenting and discovering:
Microscope Observation – Peering through a microscope, they observed onion peel cells. Natural pH Indicator –
Using beetroot juice, they tested the pH levels of soil samples, learning about acidity and alkalinity in nature.
Water Testing – a simple yet eye-opening experiment helped them distinguish between hard and soft water by comparing the foam formation in tap and RO water.
Vitamin C Test – With fresh amla juice, the studets explored its role as a natural immunity booster, discovering its health benefits through an engaging experiment.
As the day drew to a close, the students transformed their learnings into creative expressions, presenting their findings through vibrant posters, catchy jingles, and enthusiastic enactments. Their excitement was infectious, as they proudly showcased their discoveries with confidence and joy.
This outdoor learning experience was a beautiful blend of science, teamwork and nature, fostering curiosity, collaboration and critical thinking. It was a day filled with laughter, learning and lasting memories, reminding us that education extends far beyond the classroom walls.
