Science on Sphere workshop at the National Science Centre

A workshop was organised at the National Science Centre (NSC), Pragati Maidan on 21st July 2016. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Kailash, Education Officer, NSC and was

attended by teachers from schools across Delhi.

The session started with a brief discussion on the phenomenon, Science on Sphere (SOS). SOS uses a unique concept that helps viewers to visualise complex scientific data and process it in a simple format. It uses satellite data, transforms it into visual images and then projects it onto a sphere.

The speaker discussed common problems faced by students and teachers teaching Geography and Physics to classes VI IX. He explained how one can solve these problems using SOS technology.

The National Science Centre is the first institution in Delhi that uses Science on Sphere. Some of the programmes currently being shown on SOS are: 1. Wind, Water and Mountains - Ingredients of Regional Climate 2. Visualising Change - Sea Level Rise 3. Visualising Change - Extreme Climate 4. Solar Energy 5. Importance of Fresh water

The National Science Centre encourages teachers to use SOS technology for their schools. This exceptional system provides a perfect teaching tool to teachers and students as it allows them to visualise phenomena better. The workshop provided a unique and realistic approach to teaching and aims to enliven the teaching learning process.
