Scrabble for vocabulary in class 8
One forgets words as one forgets names. Ones vocabulary needs constant fertilising or it will die - Evelyn Waugh
At our School, SCRABBLE is used as a fun tool by students of class VIII for adding and refreshing spelling, vocabulary and social skills. It is actively played once a week in the classroom to augment speaking and writing in English. In its own way the time tested board game also teaches to analyse and problem- solve.

The introductory session commenced this term amidst much excitement! The students were refreshed about the rules of the game by their English teachers. A brief history of the game was told. They were fascinated to learn that Alfred Mosher Butts, an unemployed architect, conceived the game it in 1938 but had to wait till 1948. It was a sell-out.
Scrabble prompts its players to build a sense of personal confidence as they learn to think strategically, calculate probabilities and develop the discipline to study long lists of words. It helps to improve the concentration level, too. No wonder then that our School has chosen to use the game as a tool of edutainment to teach language skills.
