Scrabble Workshop

A dedicated group of 25 students applied their minds and dipped into their mental word banks as they brushed up Scrabble rules and techniques at a workshop ahead of the 10th Delhi State Scrabble Championship 2015. This tournament will be held on 17th October 2015 at the PP International School, Delhi. The workshop was organised by the Scrabble Association of India and conducted by Ms. Swati Gupta of the Delhi Scrabble Training Centre on 30th September 2015 . The enthusiastic students were tutored in the intricacies associated with Scrabble. Ms. Gupta introduced them to the Game play system: King of the Hill league system, International Scrabble rules, where players with similar scores, compete with each other. On the day of the competition the players will engage in five rounds. They were told to carry their own boards (Standard International Board, preferably, Mattels). Each game shall be of 50 minutes duration.

During the session, the students were given an opportunity to engage each other in games, under the guidance of Ms. Gupta and her team. They were also introduced to the basic two letter words and the formation of words using the hook technique as well as forming words, while utilising letters already on the board. They were also taught how to utilise the premium squares on the board and to tally their respective totals. The students appreciated Ms Guptas efforts and admitted that it had been an enriching experience as it helped them learn and understand this game better. Report submitted by Ms.Nidhi Bindra.
