Diwali celebrates the victory of good over evil. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that people light outside their homes as a symbol of the inner light that dispels darkness. People celebrate this Festival of Lights with an abundance of sweets and an exchange of gifts with family and friends.
On the auspicious occasion, Pre-school Delphini presented a special assembly on 25 October 2019. The assembly began with a narration and a skit on why Diwali is celebrated. It also spoke of some beliefs and customs associated with the festival. The children were told about how Diwali marks the return of Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshman to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. The people of Ayodhya were so overjoyed on the return of their beloved heroes that they lit oil lamps to welcome them.

At the assembly, the children took a pledge to forgo bursting crackers so that the noise and air pollution would be less. A song followed, filling the atmosphere with rhythm and festivity.
The assembly greatly boosted the childrens confidence and speaking skills. Each child was trained to speak a few lines on the importance of Diwali and how we must celebrate it in an eco-friendly manner.
Students of Pre-School and Pre-Primary also participated in a Rangoli making activity. The word Rangoli is said to have been derived from the words rang and aavalli which together mean a row of colours.
The children enjoyed using herbal colours, flowers and grains to give special effects to their Rangoli designs. They finally decorated these with diyas. It was an apt graphic for their slogan CLEAN DIWALI GREEN DIWALI. The teachers helped the chidren give a special touch to their Rangolis.
The whole activity was filled with fun and triggered a festive mood.
