Teacher workshop on AI tools for teaching
On 26 September 2024, a workshop on ChatGPT was conducted for the teachers of The Indian School by Ms Tavleen Singh and Ms Jyoti, teachers of the computer department. The session began with a creative skit where Ms Jyoti approached Ms Tavleen seeking help with lesson planning, particularly on how to integrate diverse subjects such as Art, Science and Music. This engaging introduction set the stage for demonstrating how ChatGPT can be an invaluable tool for teachers to enhance their lesson plans and curriculum development.
Ms Tavleen elaborated on the various ways that educators can leverage ChatGPT to improve their teaching methods. She highlighted how AI can assist in generating innovative ideas, creating captivating images and even crafting presentations. Importantly, she also addressed concerns about plagiarism, urging teachers to use ChatGPT for drawing inspiration, refining ideas, and ensuring originality in their work.
The workshop included a brief history of ChatGPT, detailing its evolution and applications in education. Ms Tavleen emphasised the platform's versatility and its potential to revolutionise teaching by offering personalised lesson plans, assisting with complex topics and enhancing the overall learning experience. Ethical considerations surrounding the use of AI were also discussed, stressing the importance of responsible usage.
In addition to ChatGPT, the session explored various other AI chatbots available in the market. Ms Tavleen and Ms Jyoti compared platforms such as Meta AI, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot, Chatsonic, Jasper, Claude, Google Bard, and Gemini, each offering unique features and capabilities that cater to different educational needs. They also highlighted the recent partnership between Apple and OpenAI, signalling an exciting new frontier in AI-assisted learning.
The workshop was an insightful exploration of how AI is transforming education, empowering teachers to embrace technology in their teaching methodologies while maintaining ethical integrity.
