THE 19th DR AMIDAS GORADIA INTER-SCHOOL HINDI DEBATE

It is better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it. Joseph Joubert

The Dr Amidas Goradia Inter-School Hindi Debate Competition is a tradition at The Indian School, and this year marked its 19th iteration. But this year stood out as particularly noteworthy because the debate and the Sanskrit Vachan Kaushal Pratiyogita, both took place simultaneously. The inter-school debate organised on 24 August 2023 attracted confident young debaters from 22 prominent schools from Delhi NCR.

The august gathering included dignitaries such as Member of our School Managing Committee Dr Mrs Nayana Goradia, Chairperson of the School Managing Committee Ms Brinda Shroff, Member of the Governing Body and the guiding force of our prestigious Citizenship Programme Ms Madhavi Divan, Principal Ms Tania Joshi, Vice Principal Dr Anu Singh, Head-mistress Ms Vandana Tiwari, and Ms Tina Kapoor Vice President PTA. Professor Tripathi thanked the School and expressed her delight at being present at the prestigious event. She also emphasised the role of good communication skills in developing the overall personality of an individual.

While the Sanskrit Vachan Kaushal Pratiyogita students proceeded to the library, the classes IV and V children who took part in the debate stayed back in the auditorium. Four topics were provided for debate Dharti hamari hai, in sabko bachana hum sabki zimmedari hai, Hum toh padne ke liye ate hai school, khelne ke liye hume kyu karte hai majboor, Vidyarthi hona kitna mushkil hai, isse toh adhyapak hona behtar hai and Humko bhaata virtual school. Any one theme was to be chosen by the participants.

The attendees in the auditorium were delighted to see the vivacious speakers debate on the motions with poise and outstanding clarity. A nukkad natak on the subject, Say No to Plastic, was presented by the class 2 pupils.
