Tod Fod Jod Mela

Students of classes 9 and 10 visited a science mela held at Modern School on 21 January, 2013 under an initiative of the National Innovation Council (NInc). This council was constituted by the Prime Minister in view of 2010-2020 having been declared the Decade of Innovation. The TFJ program, as it is popularly called, was piloted in 20 schools of Delhi-NCR for 3 months in which about 50 workshops were conducted. This program was also piloted in Gujarat and Karnataka.

Adviser to the Prime Minister (Public information, infrastructure and innovations, Government of India), Mr. Sam Pitroda (planning commission) was chief guest on this occasion. Several dignitaries from the National Science Centre (NSC), NCERT and school principals were also present at the event. Working models developed from waste and damaged materials of everyday use were displayed by students of classes 6 to 12. Some of the important models were the water- filter- cooler which was a portable cooler for the poor developed from a recycked water filter, lamp and valet made from a computer key-board inner rubber-skin, hydraulic crane using syringes (displaying the pressure of the fluids), a travelling microscope torch, remote- controlled boat, emergency exit light/ indicator etc. The mela was an enriching exercise.
