Top honours at inter school competition held by Mayo College, Ajmer

Cordae rightly said, Competition is the best form of motivation.

The Indian School participated in the 12th edition of the Silver Jubilee Commemorative Young Thinkers Conclave organised by Mayo College Girls School, Ajmer, from 6 to 9 August 2023. Our School team comprised 14 students and were escorted by faculty member, Ms Radhika Prabhakar.

On 7 August 2023, were held the preliminary round of the English debate, the Hindi debate, the Hindi creative writing event, English creative writing, the quiz, as well as the English dramatics event. It was also the date for the submission of raw files for the multimedia competition.

On 8 August, the debate semi-finals as well as the final rounds of all other events took place. The students saw a captivating play performed by the students of the host school, based on the theme Urmila from the Ramayana, and the effect that war has on children. This was followed by the host Principals dinner. On 9 August, the debate finals concluded the event, followed by the closing ceremony and prize distribution. The details of the various events are as follows:

Multiformat English Debate

Our School team comprising Manan Kakkar XII A, Ekveer Sahoo XII, and Shamit Sharma XII C, secured the Second Position. Manan was adjudged Best Speaker Finals.

In the preliminary round, the topics were as follows:

Extempore (Manan Kakkar): Newest Normal

Turncoat (Ekveer Sahoo): This house advocates human colonisation of outer space.

Bridge (Shamit Sharma): This house believes that coaching institutes are undermining education provided by schools and becoming a dangerous shortcut to learning.

In the semi-final round, the team had to oppose the motion This house would create and teach a unified curriculum for SAARC countries. In the final round conducted on the last day, the team had to propose the motion This house believes humanity will not reach the 22nd century, followed by a Block and Tackle round by Manan, where he spoke on This house believes reality shows are unreal. The eloquence and carefully crafted arguments on both sides made for an uplifting experience.

English Dramatics

Maanya Arora XII C, Viraaj Gaba XI C, and Ryan Singh X B, participated in the English Dramatics. Maanya played Draupadi, Viraaj- Prometheus, and Ryan- the dice, an inanimate object. The moving play showed a positive spin on Draupadis life. Our team members showcased their ability for enactment and extraordinary dialogue delivery.

English Creative Writing

Tanisha Mehndiratta XI A, Ananya Basu IX E, and Ryan Singh X B, participated in this event. The topics for the same were as follows:

Prose (Ryan Singh)- How long is the length of forever?

Poem (Ananya Basu)- How long is the length of freedom?

Haiku (Tanisha Mehndiratta)- How long is the length of a gasp?

For her innovative thinking and flair for the language, Ananya Basu IXE, was honoured with the Joint Third Position in the Creative Writing (Poem) Category.

Hindi Debate

Chinmay Mishra XII A, Kirtida Agarwal XII C, and Mannat Suri XII C, teamed up for the Hindi Debate Category. Their topic was Abhivyakti ki aazadi ne OTT aur social media ko belagam kar diya hai. They had to speak for the motion. Our children debated with great conviction and confidence.

Hindi Creative Writing

Maanya Arora XII C and Viraaj Gaba XI C wrote a poem, following the lines:

Yeh raah nahi hogi aasan

Mere sapne meri zid

Mujhe kab samjhoge

Jab maine ek achha dost kho diya.

The students displayed their talent and skill for writing Hindi verse. Their in-depth knowledge and love for the mother tongue was very evident.

Multimedia Video-Making Contest

Aarush Mahajan XI A and Shaurya Fulfagar IX C, prepared a movie on the theme Bridging Ancient Wisdom and Modern Challenges: The Bhagavad Gita Today. Based on a shloka from the Bhagavad Gita, the children were to make a movie. The students showcased their skill for movie making, video editing and art/aesthetics.

General Quiz

Manan Kakkar XII A, and Dhruv Sacheti XI E, participated in the General Quiz, hosted by quizmaster, Mr Parnab Mukherjee. The participants answered the questions rolled out by the quiz master with verve and vigour.

Overall, the inter-school event provided an enriching learning experience for the students.
