Webinar for senior students- Understanding Changes in Delhi University

A webinar and panel discussion was organised by noted career counsellor, Jitin Chawlas Centre for Career Development on Understanding Changes in Delhi University on 29 June 2020. The session focused on the steps to be followed for admission to DU in relation to course selection, placement, new courses and the application process. It also discussed ways to secure admission for candidates who score less than 70 percent. The list of panelists included Mr Jitin Chawla ( Founder and Director, Centre for Career Development), Dr Vipin Aggarwal (Officiating Principal, Sri Aurobindo College (DU) and Dr Pavitra Bharadwaj (Prof. at Jesus and Mary College, DU). An alumnus of JMC, Ms Pashmeen Kaur was also a part of the session.

Mr Chawla began the session by sharing information about various DU courses in which admission can be taken on the basis of entrance tests. Some of the courses that were discussed were the BMS, BBE, BBA, BA(Hons) Multimedia and Mass Communication and B.El.Ed. He also spoke about CIC and discussed various career options like Data Analysis and Aerophysics post a honours degree in Physics or Math.

Dr Aggarwal and Dr Bhardwaj spoke about the various guidelines for admission to DU. They said that this year, the university has announced a 100% contact-less admission procedure. Clearing the doubts of various students, they talked about subject lists to calculate the highest marks scored in four subjects, steps to edit the admission form, uploading of self attested documents, separate forms for JMC and St Stephens College, NCWEB and ward quota. Ms Pashmeen spoke about her journey as a student at DU and her engagement with its various societies. She also shared her experiences of working with various NGOs during her time spent in college.

Mr Chawla then discussed the prospects of studying abroad. He named a few universities and their eligibility criteria. All the panelists answered the queries of the students. Queries ranging from choosing between a college and a course, concession for female candidates, foreign language courses were shared by the students.

The session was very informative and an enriching experience for the students. It was reiterated correctly by the speakers that students must follow their individual paths in choosing the appropriate course and college and not blindly follow in the footsteps of peers.
