Workshop on Illustrated Story- Writing for classes 6 and 7.
Literature is not mere fiction or recreation, it has to do with life at large. There is not a single realm of human life, with which literature does not concern itself.
The students of classes VI and VII underwent a new learning experience during the first day of Literary Week which started on 24 April, 2014 at School.
To commemorate the beginning of the week, a workshop on Illustrated Story Writing was conducted by Delhi- based childrens author and illustrator, Ms. Indu Harikumar, who has worked with publishing houses, NGOs and multinational companies. She contributes to various childrens magazines in English and Hindi, namely Champak, Highlights, Hoot and Toot, Chakmak, Eklavya etc.
The students who participated in the workshop were thrilled to browse her work and the innovative way she had used illustrations. Aligning with the School the school theme, Ms. Harikumar plodded the children to attempt stories based on what they knew about the west coast of India. For example, she suggested techniques to bring in marine-life into the tales they spun, both in the text and the illustrations. She welcomed the children's questions and patiently answered them.
Later the children made several little books filled with illustrations under her direction. Ms. Harikumar left, both touched and impressed with the manifold stories created her young learners.
At this creative workshop, our students got a prize opportunity to experience to be introduced to literature with art and were filled with effervescence to write and illustrate even more! -
